This is a 10-week program that progressively helps people with mild to moderate disabilities achieve their health, wellbeing & social goals within mainstream fitness environments.

Fit n Able's Health & Wellbeing Coaches are trained in specialised exercise & fitness for people with disabilities and use "Evidence Based Practices" techniques that have been scientifically proven to be effective to ensure participants make gradual progress, build confidence and train safely.

Some of the EBP we use are visual supports, video modelling, prompting, modelling, picture exchange communication system (PECS), social narratives and more.

  • One on one support: Programs are delivered one-on-one combining progressive overload strength training and various forms of cardio vascular exercises. motor skills & hand-eye coordination development.
  • Social Skills: Participants are also taught gym etiquette and are encouraged to have conversations and build their own relationships with other gym members and trainers.
  • Be part of our Social Events: Being fit and healthy is also about having fun, building relationships and forging new friendships. At Fit n Able all our participants have access to our social events where we get together, have some delicious food, take part in awesome activities, share in everyone's successes and have a good laugh.
  • Be part of our Fit Fun Sport Events: We also support our participants to take part in fun runs such as the City2Surf and Maroubra Fun Run where our Health and Wellbeing Coaches run alongside them giving them support and encouragement along the way.

Health & Wellbeing Program For Parents & Carers
Parents and carers of people with disability give a lot of themselves every single day and most often neglect their health.

There is very limited time to focus on their own health which as a consequence leaves parents and carers tired and with the risk of developing health concerns.

This is why Our Health & Wellbeing Program for parents and carers blends the best of face-to-face and online accountability. We know parents and carers need the support to start their wellbeing journey whilst having flexibility with their time.

This style of program is flexible, effective and allows you to take back control of your health and wellbeing while having direct access and support from our Head Health and Wellbeing Coach.
Each Program Includes:
  • A detailed Pre-Exercise Health & Goals Assessment Screening to assess fitness level, specific motivations, health concerns.
  • Detailed 12 week fitness program based on the outcomes from the initial meeting.
  • Initially your Health and Wellbeing coach will teach you each exercise face-to-face, so you know what to do every week on your own.
  • Your Health and Wellbeing Coach monitors your progress through our dedicated online platform to ensure you are completing your routine, you are progressing and you are on track.
  • Every 4 weeks you will have a face-to-face session with your Health and Wellbeing Coach to review your exercises and your progress as well as answer any questions you may have that you didn't ask your coach through the online platform or by phone.
  • Nutrition Coaching is also included for Parents and Carers that want to take this step.

MEET SOME OF OUR FIERCE WARRIORS!
A Fierce Warrior is someone who despite life’s challenges Believes in themselves, Never Quits and Achieves their goals
“Archie lacked physical fitness, he needed more exercise and his BMI was above where it should have been. Archie loves coming to the gym, enjoys the challenge with the staff who engage and encourage him so well. He is now so much fitter, is in the normal BMI for his age and has increased his strength. He loves it!

If you or a person you care for is considering joining Fit n Able, just do it :) It’s really worth it. Kids & adults with additional needs really benefit from staff who understand how to engage them in being physically active.”
Archie (Ainsley Poulos - mother)
"Prior to starting Fit ‘n Able Penny led a fairly sedentary lifestyle. Penny loves her weekly lessons with her coach, whose professionalism combined with compassion, outstanding knowledge of special needs and patience, are a winning formula in motivating Penny to reach her goals. It is clearly evident that over the course of Penny’s lessons, she has increased her fitness level, taken a greater interest in her self-presentation and improved her social skills.

I would highly recommend Fit ‘n Able as a personalised, specialist service which focuses on the whole person and strives for each individual to reach their own potential."
Penny (Charlene Zulman - mother)
“Before starting at Fit n Able, Jaime-Lee was healthy but not physically ‘in shape’ and tired very easily. She had little stamina and core strength. Getting her to do anything physical was a real battle.

Since joining Fit n Able the improvement has been remarkable. Jaime-Lee is noticeably slimmer, fitter and healthier in terms of her physical appearance and It’s the obvious physical improvement in her appearance and actions that is so pleasing.

If you’re thinking of joining Fit n Able I’d say without hesitation : “ Just do it!! “

“My son Danny was quite overweight as his Autism made him unable to restrain from eating when food was available. Danny was unable to understand why this was a problem for his health and wellbeing.

I was relieved to have such expert help from Fit n Able. Danny constantly benefits from their knowledge & insights. They know how to tailor instructions for my son who is non-verbal and can have challenging behaviours. He has learned how to exercise and easily accepts instructions from his trainer and can increasingly follow more verbal cues and prompts. I would advise anyone who is responsible for a loved-one with a disability to allow Fit n Able to help. They listen to you and offer practical advice and design a plan that is easy to follow.”
Danny (Mandy Sawday - mother)
“Prior to Ella starting at Fit n Able, she was very sedentary and never engaged in any physical activity. Ella is now very focused on her physical fitness and since joining fit n Able she is motivated to train hard and has adopted more healthy eating habits

Fit n Able staff are supportive and knowledgeable about special needs and how to engage and work with clients who face numerous daily challenges. Ella has become physically strong, lost weight and has a greater level of self-confidence. She has become sociable at the gym and engages and communicates with other gym members and trainers.

Fit n Able is the best thing we have done for our daughter. I would highly recommend this service. Ella loves it and so do we.”
Ella - (Debbie Levin - mother)
“Matthew has always wanted to be strong like his brothers but getting him to participate in a group activity was difficult. I was concerned for his life-long health and wanted to show him how exercise could be fun with the right people and in a caring environment.

Since joining Fit n Able, Matthew is the keenest he has ever been to go to an activity. The enthusiasm he has for going to the gym and getting strong and fit is contagious – I want to join him too! He loves the independence he has achieved with taking himself to and from the gym, he loves the variety of activities. The boxing, weight lifting and surprisingly the cardio – he loves them all and is keen and engaged with his trainer. He also loves the choice and control he is offered over his program.
Matthew - (RebeccaVass – mother)
“Before my daughter Ilana started with Fit n Able she was very heavy and struggled to walk up the stairs to her apartment. She spent a lot of time sleeping as she had very little energy.

We’ve found Fit n Able to be efficient in everything they do and they’re extremely accountable and a pleasure to work with. Ilana looks forward to her sessions at the gym and misses them during holidays.

Ilana’s weight is much better now and her energy levels are much higher. She is also much more active in the community. I’m sure if anyone joined Fit n Able, they’d be happy with the team, the training and the results. I couldn’t be more pleased with all that they offer.”
Ilana (Sabine Roussos - mother)
Nicholas is able to participate and enjoy himself with the correct support. I find all the staff at Fit n Able to be constructive, motivating and supportive to build skills and positive interactions, Nicholas started apprehensively, not being one that engages in exercise. The staff has worked with me as well as Nicholas to identify interests that can be used as motivators, which has been a huge success. Nicholas loves the resistance training.  I can sum up Nichola’s experience at Fit n Able as being positive for his social interactions, fun, full of exercise and as his doctor told us, he’s building lean muscle mass, which his doctor was very happy with.

I would highly recommend Fit n Able to anyone. The respect, care and thoughtfulness they show each participant is both impressive and comforting, knowing you’re giving your child access to new skills and a healthier life in a beautiful environment All Fit n Able staff are brilliant and I can recommend to anyone without hesitation.
Nicholas (Linda McCarthy - mother)

My health was good but Fit n Able has improved my health and wellbeing. I enjoy dog walking to keep me fit I am looking forward to the city to surf with Fit n ble. At Fit n Able I have learned to eat a healthy and balanced diet and improved my fitness. My fitness had improved and I have gained muscles.

If you’re thinking about joining Fit n Able, it’s a great program to be fit and healthy and gain self-confidece.
